Thomas Francis Gianni (January 5, 1960 – March 30, 2020) worked out of Chicago across advertising storyboards, animation background painting, editorial and book illustration, portraiture, and card game art for Magic: The Gathering and the Harry Potter Trading Card Game. He held a bachelor's degree from Northeastern Illinois University and a post-baccalaureate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
From 1981 he worked as the courtroom sketch artist for WGN, NBC, and CNN, and from 1983 taught illustration and structural anatomy at the American Academy of Art, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Columbia College. He began painting for Magic: The Gathering in 1996, ultimately illustrating 28 cards, and later received the Rankin Award for Artistic Achievement from the Robert E. Howard Foundation for his work illustrating Howard's fiction.
