Base Set

Base Set launched the Harry Potter Trading Card Game in August 2001, three months ahead of Sorcerer's Stone's theatrical release, after Wizards of the Coast first showed it off at the New York Toy Fair that February. Its 116 cards draw from the first book and film: the Sorting, first-year classes, Quidditch, and the creatures and characters of Harry's opening year at Hogwarts.

The set's chase cards are its ten Holo Portrait Premium characters, led by Harry Potter (#8), with Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Rubeus Hagrid, Draco Malfoy and Professor Snape close behind. The most notable foil card is the Unicorn.
