Ron Spencer

Ron Spencer, born March 30, 1963, grew up on a farm in Aurora, Nebraska, reading Conan the Barbarian comics. Largely self-taught aside from two years at a small Idaho college, he cites horror artists Richard Corben and Bernie Wrightson as his key influences, and works in mixed media combining colored pencil, ballpoint pen, watercolor, and acrylic.

Spencer was one of Magic: The Gathering's original twenty-five artists and remained active with the game for decades. He has also illustrated for Dungeons & Dragons 3rd edition, Vampire: The Masquerade, Shadowrun, and — in the 1990s — Iron Crown Enterprises' Middle-earth Collectible Card Game. He is the brother of fellow illustrator Terese Nielsen.
