Lars Grant-West

Lars Grant-West grew up in Brooklyn, spending formative time at the Brooklyn Aquarium, the Bronx Zoo, and the American Museum of Natural History, where his fascination with prehistoric creatures took root. He studied at New York's School of Visual Arts before spending twelve years working in the zoo field.

He left that career in early 2006 to illustrate full-time, having already begun painting for Dungeons & Dragons and, from the Onslaught block onward, Magic: The Gathering, where he became known as one of the game's natural-history and creature specialists. He now teaches creature design, worldbuilding, and digital art at the Rhode Island School of Design.
