Jon Foster studied illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design, graduating in 1989, and returned to teach there part-time from 2004. Early in his career he collaborated with Star Wars artist Dave Dorman before building an independent reputation across comics, publishing, and games — cover work for DC and Dark Horse, interiors for Dungeons & Dragons and Alternity, and card illustrations for Magic: The Gathering.
His clients have included National Geographic, Tor Books, Del Rey, Scholastic, and the Boston Globe. Foster has received two silver and three gold Spectrum awards for contemporary fantastic art, the David P. Usher/Greenwich Workshop Memorial Award from the Society of Illustrators, and the 2008 Dark Scribe Quill Award for Best Cover. He teaches as a member of the Illustration Academy faculty.
