Doug Chaffee

Douglas Stewart Chaffee (January 24, 1936 – April 26, 2011) grew up in upstate New York and studied art and history at Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, before serving in the U.S. Army and Army National Guard. He went on to head IBM's art department during the early years of the space race.

After retiring from IBM, Chaffee turned to freelance illustration full-time, painting for Magic: The Gathering, BattleTech, and Middle-earth: The Wizards, and contributing artwork to TSR's Dungeons & Dragons line, including the Dungeoneer's Survival Guide (1986) and The Emirates of Ylaruam (1987).
