Dave Dorman was born in 1958 in Michigan and has worked as a professional illustrator since 1979, after bringing his portfolio to New York in 1982 to pursue commercial art. He is best known for defining the visual identity of Star Wars comics through the 1990s, painting covers and interiors for Tales of the Jedi, Dark Empire, and Young Jedi Knights, and co-writing the novella Dark Forces: Jedi Knight.
In 1996, Star Wars Galaxy Magazine voted him the number-one Star Wars artist of all time. He won the Eisner Award in 1993 for his painted work on Aliens: Tribes, and received the Inkpot Award at San Diego Comic-Con in 2010.
