Ben Thompson graduated from the Laguna College of Art and Design and began his career teaching illustration at Cal State Long Beach and Mt. San Antonio College while freelancing on the side for Magic: The Gathering, Dungeons & Dragons, and Legend of the Five Rings.
He served as art director for the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game before joining Blizzard Entertainment outright in 2009, where he worked on Vanguard: Saga of Heroes and helped shape Hearthstone. Over his career he contributed more than seventy illustrations across twenty Magic: The Gathering sets before leaving Blizzard in 2019.
