Alan Pollack was born in New Jersey in 1964 and, drawn early to the work of Frank Frazetta and Boris Vallejo, studied at the School of Visual Arts, Parsons School of Design, and the New School of Figurative Art in New York. He supported his early career as a silk screener and photo retoucher.
His first published cover appeared on Dungeon magazine in 1991, shortly after which TSR offered him a staff position. He produced interior art for Dragon magazine and numerous D&D books through the 1990s, and began painting for Magic: The Gathering with the Tempest set in 1997, ultimately contributing well over a hundred pieces to the game across a thirty-year career.
